Privacy at Tutra

A simple explanation of what information we collect and what we do with it.

Last updated 22 August 2026

The short version: you can browse Tutra and use our current learning tools without creating an account. We collect personal information when you choose to contact us or use a service that needs it. We use that information to help you, run Tutra and keep our services working. We do not sell or rent personal information.

1. Who we are

Tutra provides tutoring, educational resources and student-to-student learning support. In this policy, “Tutra”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean the Tutra business.

If you have a privacy question, email us at [email protected].

2. Information we collect

We collect information you choose to give us, such as:

  • your name and email address;
  • the subject and contents of an enquiry;
  • information needed to arrange or provide tutoring; and
  • information you provide if you ask about becoming a tutor or working with Tutra.

Please avoid putting sensitive information in a free-text message unless it is genuinely needed.

3. Learning tools and simulations

Our current Lab tools do not require a student account. Tutra does not intentionally save the answers or experiment settings you enter into these tools. They run in your browser for the purpose of the activity.

If we later add accounts, saved progress, analytics or another feature that changes this, we will update this policy and explain the change.

4. Technical information

Like most websites, our hosting and security providers may automatically process limited technical information when the site is used. This can include an IP address, browser or device type, requested pages, and the date and time of a request. This information is generally used to deliver, protect and troubleshoot the site.

Our site may also load resources such as fonts or icons from third-party providers. Those providers may receive ordinary connection information when your browser requests those resources.

5. How we use information

We use personal information only where it is reasonably needed to:

  • respond to enquiries;
  • match students with tutors and provide Tutra services;
  • communicate about a requested or existing service;
  • review tutor or partnership enquiries;
  • operate, secure and improve our website and services; and
  • meet legal, safety and record-keeping obligations.

6. When information is shared

We may use trusted providers to operate Tutra, including website hosting, form delivery, email and other business services. They may process information for us so they can provide those services.

Some providers may process or store information outside New Zealand. The location can depend on the provider and the systems it uses.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or when reasonably necessary to protect a person, Tutra or our services. We do not sell or rent personal information.

7. Cookies and advertising

We do not currently use advertising tracking pixels or behavioural advertising cookies in the Tutra website code. Our hosting and third-party service providers may use essential technical mechanisms to provide and secure their services.

If we introduce analytics or advertising technology later, we will update this policy and provide any notice or choice that is required.

8. Information about students under 18

Tutra is designed for students, including people under 18. Students can use our public learning resources without giving us their name or creating an account.

If you are under 18 and want to send an enquiry or arrange tutoring, please ask a parent or guardian to help where practical. Parents and guardians can contact us about a child’s information using the email below.

9. Storage, security and retention

Information may be held in our email, form-handling, hosting and other business systems. We take reasonable steps to protect it from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No internet or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose it was collected, to provide our services, resolve issues and meet legal or record-keeping requirements. We then delete it or remove identifying details where reasonably practicable.

10. Your choices and questions

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, request a correction, or ask us to delete information we no longer need. Some information may need to be kept where the law requires it or for legitimate business records.

To make a request or privacy complaint, email [email protected]. Please explain what you need and provide enough information for us to identify the relevant record. We will review the request and respond within a reasonable time.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our services or information practices change. The current version will remain available on this page and will show the latest update date.
